Pregnancy and nursing can take a dramatic toll on a woman’s body. The breasts engorge and the skin expands with development of stretch marks. When nursing is halted, the breast tissue shrinks but the skin often does not shrink to the same degree thereby causing the breasts to sag. The skin also loses its tone and elasticity from the stretch marks. Often times, the breast tissue shrinks and the breast becomes smaller than what the woman had before pregnancy.

The Mommy Makeover Surgery

The Mommy Makeover surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia in our medicare-accredited, state-of-the-art Newport Coast Surgical Center. The length of surgery is approximately three to five hours depending on how many areas are treated. The mommy makeover procedure may include any combination of the following procedures:

The patient is monitored by an anesthesiologist throughout the procedure. The patient will need to stay in the recovery room with a nurse for about two hours before going home. The Recovery From Mommy Makeover Surgery

You will likely feel achy pain and a pressure feeling over your chest for several days after the surgery. Most of the discomfort will be felt in the abdomen. You should be up and about the next day to prevent blood clots from developing in the veins of the legs. You will be prescribed medication to control the pain, nausea, and possible muscle spasms. You will also be prescribed antibiotic pills to prevent infection. You will need to wear a soft surgical bra and an abdominal girdle for six weeks. Doctor Doan will instruct you on breast massage and will outline the activity limitations. The abdominal drainage tubes need to be removed at 7 to 10 days. The sutures are absorbable and do not need to be removed. Most women will be able to return to work in 2 weeks and will be able to return to their normal exercise routine by 6 weeks. Complete healing with resolution of the swelling and descent of the breast implants to a more natural position takes 2 to 3 months. The breast and abdominal scars require 12 to 18 months to fade, flatten, and soften. Complications of Mommy Makeover Surgery

If you are a healthy candidate with no pre-existing disorders or diseases which may inhibit healing, the general risks of the Mommy Makeover surgery are very low.
